About Us

Waikite Rugby & Sports Club Inc.

Founded in 1901

Waikite Rugby & Sports Club has proudly stood as one of Rotorua's longest-serving sporting clubs, with over 125 years of history, tradition and community behind it.

The club adopted the name Waikite in 1901. Alongside Kahukura, our name honours the geothermal hot pools that have long been significant to the people and landscape of our iwi Ngāti Whakaue.

Today, Waikite continues to grow as a whānau-focused sports club with strong ties to Ngāti Whakaue and the wider Rotorua community. From junior rugby to senior grades, netball, hunting & fishing and beyond, we are committed to creating opportunities for people of all ages to belong, compete and thrive.

We honour those who came before us, celebrate those who wear the jersey today, and continue to inspire the generations who will carry our legacy into the future.

It recognises those whose unwavering service have made a lasting contribution to our club. Their commitment has helped shape Waikite's proud history, strengthened our whānau, and ensured our club continues to thrive for future generations. Our Life Members are the heart of Waikite. We honour and thank them for the legacy they live and all they will leave for us all.
